Former Uttarakhand Chief Minister and senior BJP leader Major General (Retd.) Bhuwan Chandra Khanduri passed away on Tuesday at a hospital in Dehradun after a prolonged illness. He was 91.

A respected former Army officer turned politician, BC Khanduri served twice as the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand — first from 2007 to 2009 and again from 2011 to 2012. He was widely known for his disciplined administrative style, anti-corruption measures, and focus on transparent governance. During his political career, Khanduri played a key role in shaping Uttarakhand’s administrative and developmental framework. His leadership earned him a reputation for honesty, simplicity, and commitment to public service.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed deep sorrow over his demise, calling it an irreparable loss for both the state and national politics. In a statement, Dhami praised Khanduri’s contribution to the Indian Army as well as his dedicated public life. The Chief Minister said Khanduri’s legacy would continue to inspire future generations through his values of discipline, integrity, and service to the nation.
