The Ontario government has announced a $27 million investment to support Chapman’s Ice Cream, Canada’s largest independent ice cream producer, in expanding its operations with a new state-of-the-art facility in Markdale. Premier Doug Ford made the announcement during a press conference outside the company’s existing plant, calling the move a significant boost for the provincial economy and a demonstration of confidence in Ontario’s workforce.

Chapman’s is contributing more than $200 million of its own capital toward the project, which will create 200 new jobs and increase the company’s workforce to over 1,000 employees. Ford emphasized that the province remains committed to cutting red tape and ensuring Ontario remains the most competitive place in the G7 for investment and job creation. Holding up an ice cream bar at the event, he also added a personal touch, praising Chapman’s products as his daily favorite.
