TRONTO-Delta Airlines is compensating passengers with $30,000 each following the dramatic crash landing of Flight 4819 in TRONTO earlier this week.

The Minneapolis-to-Toronto flight spun out, flipped over, and erupted in flames upon landing Monday. Miraculously, all 76 passengers and 4 crew members survived. While 21 people were hospitalized, all have since been released.

Delta’s Compensation and Legal Rights-In a statement Wednesday, Delta executives confirmed that the payouts come with no legal restrictions—passengers can accept the funds and still pursue lawsuits if they choose. The total pre-lawsuit payouts could amount to $2.2 million.

Comparing Past Airline Payouts- By contrast, after the “Miracle on the Hudson” in 2009, US Airways initially offered $5,000 per passenger to cover lost luggage when Captain Chesley Sullenberger safely landed a jet in the Hudson River after a bird strike disabled both engines.

US Airways also covered medical expenses and ticket reimbursements, while issuing a formal apology.

Next Steps for Passengers-With Delta’s substantial compensation offer, the focus now turns to passenger rights, potential lawsuits, and investigations into the cause of the crash.
